About Me

Introduction

Welcome to my website, here you can find a collection of my various experiences, samples, and clips. Eventually, I intend to keep running blog here for my thoughts on sports, music or anything else but for now it is strictly my working portfolio.

Experiencing the the outdoors in new places, watching and analyzing sports, and multimedia storytelling are my greatest passions. As a recent graduate of Indiana University I'm in the process of exploring how to incorporate any or all of those passions into my next step in life. Currently, I'm in search of a sports media or team related internship or job as I look to move into my next chapter in Denver, CO.

Thanks for stopping by, keep scrolling to see my up-to-date resumé and then pop on over to my about section for a little more about my story. Beyond that, I hope you enjoy exploring my past few years of media work and please do not hesitate to reach out by email, phone or via my social media channels with any opportunities, questions or comments you'd like to share.

Work Experience

Media Experience

WIUX Sports Student Radio

2019-2021

My time at WIUX has been one of my most rewarding media experiences amongst the host of opportunities I've had within the media school. It provided me with the opportunity to get experience in podcasting, play-by-play, color commentary, board operations and critical live game analysis of a plethora of different sports. Most notably this fall, I had the opportunity while away from the Bloomington studio and learning remotely to start my own podcast. Titled "Three Yards and a Cloud of Dust," it focused on the Big Ten's abbreviated football season and can be found on Spotify or under my broadcasting tab. I found it valuable to build my confidence on the microphone and keep my speaking, producing and preparation skills sharp during this unprecedented year. I noticed immediately how much more comfortable I had become in my preparation and delivery when I returned to on-air broadcasts this spring and hope to keep that ball rolling into baseball and soccer season

IU Student Television and Big Ten Student U

Spring 2021

I've just begun working with both these on-campus broadcast entities this year and I'm looking forward to building upon my sportscasting course with Jeremy Gray in Spring of 2020. As I dive back in to studio-based work now that I've returned to Bloomington I'm thrilled to be getting more practice in front of the camera with anchoring, live TV commentary and field reporting. Beyond that I'm also excited at the opportunity to learn more about the positions behind the camera on set and refine my skillset within production.

Sports Desk Intern at Jackson Hole News & Guide

Summer 2018

In the summer between my sophomore and junior years I returned home and worked directly under my local papers sports editor at the time, Clark Forster. It has been my main experience with beat writing outside of reporting classes and gave me great hands-on experience in source acquisition, interviewing, field reporting and working on deadline. On top of that, getting to know my hometown's athletes and sports happenings as a journalist provided a great new perspective and network.

Leadership Experience

Jackson Hole Lacrosse Club Middle School Assistant

Fall 2020

Outside of the media realm, but connected to my love of sport is the youth coaching I've done throughout my life. Wherever I end up, working in youth coaching is something I plan to stay involved with. This fall I was approached by Dave Madeira, director of the Jackson Hole Lacrosse Club, about being an assistant coach for the boys 7th and 8th grade team. I jumped at the opportunity to come back to the club that I came up in and savored the opportunity to learn from the more experienced coaches I worked under. Middle school was a great age group I hadn't worked with extensively before but being able to set an example at such a pivotal age was powerful and rewarding. My goals were to foster teamwork, nourish their skill development, and build a healthy love of the sport and competition. It is incredibly fulfilling to feel as though I accomplished those goals in my short time as their coach.

Saugatuck Yacht Club Sailing Instructor

Summers 2012-2015

I began first as sailing instructor in West Michigan where our family would spend the summers. It was the same program that taught me how to sail and was my first true work experience. Learning to handle high-stress situations on the water, interact with parents, and teach alongside a team of my peers at the age of 15 taught me invaluable skills and undoubtedly played a pivotal role in who I am today. Now, the same kids I helped introduce to the sport are beginning to take the reins as instructors of the program and it is satisfying to see the program continue to grow and succeed at the highest levels within West Michigan Youth Sailing Association.

Education

Education

Indiana University-Bloomington

2015-Present

I enrolled in 2015, after coming across the country from Wyoming and certainly experienced some culture shock, given IU's undergrad population is 4x the population of my hometown. But through personal ups and downs I can safely say I love Bloomington. The people I've met, IU's culture, and opportunities I've been provided in the Media School truly can't be beat. After a complicated six years however my time here has run its course. Nonetheless I know my personal growth and the people I've met here have prepared me to take on challenges I encounter as I look to establish myself in Denver.

Mountain Academy of Teton Science Schools

(formerly known as Journeys School)

Jackson, Wyoming Campus

2012-2015

Getting to grow up a place as special as Jackson, Wyoming has exposed me to a plethora of people and ways of life I would never have crossed paths with otherwise. On top of that my time at Journeys School helped gave me deep appreciation of place, diversity, the outdoors, and community building.
