Who I Am and How I Got Here

I was born in the state of Michigan and moved to Wyoming when I was 9 with my family. Originally, we were supposed to stay for just a year in hopes of regrouping and bonding as a family after my battle with childhood Leukemia disrupted our lives and family dynamic. Upon moving, my family quickly found the mountains and Jackson Hole community to be a perfect match for us and we made the move permanent.

After spending all of middle and high school in the small town, however, I was ready for something more. Bloomington provided that for me as a quintessential college town with Big Ten Sports, incredible people, and a revamped Media School that was key to me ending up as a proud Hoosier.

Unfortunately my life took a turn early in my time at Indiana. After a decade cancer-free, I relapsed in February 2016 as a Freshman. I worked my way back to school for Spring of '17, and was able to enjoy the next three semesters in Bloomington and my first summers in Wyoming alongside two incredible support systems of friends and family. Then in August of 2018 I returned to Bloomington for what would-have-been my Junior year alongside my best friends whoI entered IU with, who were Seniors. I relapsed yet again on the first day of classes. This time I required a bone marrow transplant, a harrowing experience that left me staring death in face for the bulk of that Fall.  Somehow I made it through again, celebrated Little 5 before my peers' graduation and have luckily returned to the form I was in six years ago when I first set foot in Bloomington

While I've remained steadfast in my pursuit of a degree and done work I'm proud of in classes. The extracurricular opportunities that were so exciting to me upon entering school often eluded me throughout the first semesters after returning from the first diagnosis at IU. Between my own desire to make up for time I lost socially, failing to be proactive, and the fatigue of going through college while still very much recovering from Leukemia, I failed to seize opportunities and get the reps I needed to build confidence and bolster my skillset early on at IU. In the spring and summer leading up to before my final relapse, however, I worked hard to learn, refine my skills, take chances and be involved within sports writing, content creation, and broadcasting. All areas I've envisioned myself being a part of since well before being a Hoosier was even on my radar. Undoubtedly, I still have room to grow, but I'm more confident in myself and my ability to work hard, and adapt than ever before. I know that mindset will benefit me moving forward. Thanks for taking a second to read some of my story, and I look forward to creating, learning, and telling vivid stories wherever I land next.
